Why does SendTo not show subfolders?

Under All Users Start menu I have something like this

folder
....
GRAPHICS PROGS (folder)
IRFANVIEW (folder)
irfanview (program)
PHOTOPLUS (folder)
photoplus prog

etc.

When I create a shortcut to GRAPHICS PROGS in my user SEND TO folder, I
think I should now have the option to right click and send files to either
irfanview or photoplus since the SEND TO option should now have subfolders
just like the START menu. Isn't this right?

What I DO get is just the option to send a file to the GRAPHICS PROGS
menu. When I do this, the file is copied there.
It IS a shortcut in my SEND TO folder with the little shortcut arrow and
everything. When I click it, I DO get the GRAPHICS PROGS folder to open
with the submenus visible just like you would expect. I'm pretty sure
things work as I expect on WIN98 and other machines. Is it XP? My setup?
Is it me?

Thanks again
Joy

Try using the exe file for irfanview, whatever it is, located in Program
Files\Ifanview instead of pointing to a folder on your Start Menu.

Go to irfanview (program) on the Start Menu, right click it, select
Properties and click the Find Target button to find the actual irfanview
program.

I do not have irfanview installed right now and I cannot remember the name
of the exe file.

Thanks for the reply, but this is not what I'm trying to do.

I know how to place items in my SendTo folder and I know an individual exe
would work just fine.

What I WANT to do is have a folder/subfolder structure similar to the
START menu so I can choose between all my graphics programs just by
placing one shortcut to one main level folder in the SENT TO folder.

I just gave it a quick try on a Win2000 machine and got the same results
as my XP machine. Even though the shortcut to the top level folder is
there (and clicking on it opens the correct explorer window), there is no
expanding folder/subfolder structure when using file SEND TO.

I could have SWORN it worked on my WIN98 machine. But I've been having
such a bear of a time moving things over and getting them to work how I
want on this new XP machine that my brain is absolutely fried so I may be
remembering the wrong thing.

So, IS there a way of creating a folder structure in the SEND TO folder???

Thank you,

Joy

Joy,

I do not believe that you can have a flyout sub-menu of Send To.

This just in...

Use Windows 95 Send To Power Toys.

With Windows 95 Send To Power Toys, you can...

To create sub menus on the Send To menu type Sendto in the Start - Run
dialog box. Click a blank spot and choose New then Folder. Rename the folder
to the name you want on the Send To menu. Drag your shortcuts you want on
the menu into this folder.

See this.

Read all of David Candy's instructions on what to do to fix the one problem
that installing Win95 Power Toys Send To causes in XP.

You DID it! That's the trick, create the folders and subfolders manually.
Easy when you know how and one of those "I should have thought of trying
that myself" moments.

It's so nice to have the help of knowledgeable others when you get stuck.

Thanks very much.
