SendTo items not working

W

WrongWayWade

I have shortcuts for Internet Explorer, Word 2003 and Excel 2003 in my
SendTo folder

C:\Documents and Settings\YourNameHere\SendTo

However, in Windows Explorer when I right-click on a file and select Send
To, those three items do NOT appear in the displayed menu, but the rest of
the shortcuts in my Send To folder ARE shown in the menu.

What's up with that? (Windows XP SP3, all patches applied.)

Go here:
Shortcuts in the "Send To" folder not appearing in the menu?
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/sendtofix.htm

Scroll down past the Google Ads, and read the page.
Download the script "fixsendto.vbs" to your system and run it.
There is a link for the script about halfway down the web page. Here is
a direct link:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/reg/fixsendto.vbs

Post back and let us know if it worked for you.

You don't send to those three applications but you open them in those
applications. The easiest way is to double-click on the file and the
correct application will open.

Alternatively, you could select "Open With" when you right-click on
those files.

If it Open With OpenOffice as a Defeat
You have to use Select Send To make it Open With Word 2003 and Excel 2003!

You are another ****er using open office when the OP has clearly stated
he is using Word 2003.

Go to bed and masturbate or **** your daughter you paedophile!

Sending a file to one of those apps via a "Send To" shortcut opens the
file with that app. That's exactly the point and purpose of being able
to add shortcuts to "SendTo". You DO send to those applications.

Many programs even have the option to add themselves to Send To. Irfan
Viewer, for example, allows you to add a shortcut to Irfan Viewer to the
Send To menu. You can then right-click an image file> Send To> Irfan
View, and the image opens in the app, regardless of whether it is the
registered app for the image file type.

This sounded exactly like what I needed but it didn't work.

HOWEVER, I did figure it out. If you just copy the magic Microsoft
shortcuts that appear in your QuickLaunch bar or on your desktop to your
SendTo folder, that doesn't work. You have to navigate to the actual
executable file itself (i.e. C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\OFFICE11\WINWORD.EXE) and create a shortcut from that file; that's
what you need to make SendTo work.

I think the referenced mvps.org webpage is correct and provides a valuable
..vbs fixup, but that wasn't what I was suffering from. I was just making
the shortcut from the wrong source.

AND to 'Tester' who wrote this jewel:

There is nothing more idiotic than answering "No, No! you don't want to do
that!! (even though it is a perfectly legitimate Windows function). Do this
other completely different thing." If that's the best you can come up with,
remain silent and skip the confirmation step of letting people know you are
an idjit.

(Note: it IS legitiamte to use SendTo to send a .txt file to Word, for
example, or any file with a bogus or missing extension. Double-clicking
doesn't get you there. And Open With often doesn't list the program you
want.)

It's like the dimwits that read a question like "I'm having this small,
specific problem with IE", and their answer is "Use Google Chrome."
Sheesh.

TY to glee.

The problem I think you had is that the shortcuts you were copying were
not "normal" shortcuts. If you look at the shortcut that is created on
the Start Menu, to Word for example, when you install Office, you will
see the properties of the shortcut are not like those of a normal
shortcut (Right-click the shortcut and click Properties). The Target
field is not properly filled, and there are other differences. That's
why they don't work as expected when you try copying them for another
usage. So, you have to create a shortcut the "long" way in order to get
the proper shortcut properties.

Glad you figured it out. I didn't know from your original post that you
were copying those shortcuts rather than creating them.

You don't send anything to those applications. YOU OPEN WITH THOSE
APPLICATIONS. Always use the correct terminology to get any meaningful
assistance.

You send idiots like you to Coventry but since your daughter is doing a
good job on my cock, we won't send you anywhere.

Your stupidity never ceases, moron. You can't even grasp the concept of
the Send To folder.

"Open with" implies a default. Not necessarily, but implies.

Daughter? I would have thought you would prefer son.

Why. Are you saying your son is also in cock sucking business? I
believe Nil and Glee are into that sort of things also. I suggest
contact them to get your son into some paid employment before he becomes
another serial killer.

I am not surprised. All Peckham boys are rapists, serial killers and
muggers and this can make them sad most of the time.

Now a moron like you will never learn to use the correct terminology.
How's your daughter these days? Is she still sore after that gang bang
with 20 Jamaican boys?

The maturity level seems a bit underwhelming. :)

Have you thought of getting some help? Middle age men like you have the
tendency to suffer from male form of menopause so it is a good idea to
seek some help before you start killing anybody.

All I said was - did you not read the Original Post? - because, had you
done so, it clearly stated that he had tried [MBAM.exe], and mine was an
invitation to explain your thinking when you wrote your comments...

My comments did not warrant your libellous and base response.

Your mind belongs in the gutter, as it takes someone like you to come out
with the all the things it does - nasty!

Cheers, Tim Meddick, Peckham, London. :)
