Go here:
Shortcuts in the "Send To" folder not appearing in the menu?
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/sendtofix.htm
Scroll down past the Google Ads, and read the page.
Download the script "fixsendto.vbs" to your system and run it.
There is a link for the script about halfway down the web page. Here
is a direct link:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/reg/fixsendto.vbs
Post back and let us know if it worked for you.
This sounded exactly like what I needed but it didn't work.
HOWEVER, I did figure it out. If you just copy the magic Microsoft
shortcuts that appear in your QuickLaunch bar or on your desktop to your
SendTo folder, that doesn't work. You have to navigate to the actual
executable file itself (i.e. C:\Program Files\Microsoft
Office\OFFICE11\WINWORD.EXE) and create a shortcut from that file; that's
what you need to make SendTo work.
I think the referenced mvps.org webpage is correct and provides a valuable
..vbs fixup, but that wasn't what I was suffering from. I was just making
the shortcut from the wrong source.
AND to 'Tester' who wrote this jewel:
There is nothing more idiotic than answering "No, No! you don't want to do
that!! (even though it is a perfectly legitimate Windows function). Do this
other completely different thing." If that's the best you can come up with,
remain silent and skip the confirmation step of letting people know you are
an idjit.
(Note: it IS legitiamte to use SendTo to send a .txt file to Word, for
example, or any file with a bogus or missing extension. Double-clicking
doesn't get you there. And Open With often doesn't list the program you
want.)
It's like the dimwits that read a question like "I'm having this small,
specific problem with IE", and their answer is "Use Google Chrome."
Sheesh.
TY to glee.
