Has McCarthy been sacked!

M

Mike Williams

I know for a fact that Bill McCarthy definitely used to have an MVP profile
(or at least someone whose name he was using did!) because I have seen it
myself when performing a search for him at the following link

https://mvp.support.microsoft.com/communities/mvp.aspx

However, I checked today and I can no longer find his profile when I search
for it. Does anybody know whether he has been sacked, or whether he has just
removed his profile from public view? I certainly hope that he has been
sacked, and it would be really nice if the reports made about him to
Microsoft by various people regarding his behaviour on this group this group
were instrumental in persuading Microsoft to instruct him to fall on his
sword :)

God I hope so.

Awful site, that. All flowers and marsupials and VB code errors! At one
point he explains about the padding bytes in VB6 UDTs and he finishes with
the statement, "What this equates to is: the size of the UDT must be a
multiple of the largest "natural size" of it's members." This is a load of
crap of course, because if it were true then the size of a UDT containing
one Byte followed by one Double would be 16 bytes, whereas it is in fact it
is 12 bytes. So much for the "never wrong" McCarthy!

That doesn't mean he is currently an MVP... if you look at the header from
the msmvps.com's main webpage (http://msmvps.com/), you will see it says
"The Ultimate Destination for Blogs by Current and Former Microsoft Most
Valuable Professionals"... he could be a "former" MVP and still have a
presence there.

I've seen people deliberately and confidently write advice that I think they know is
obviously wrong (example from CastleCops forum: "experts would tell you to switch to
windows me. it's important to keep your ram below 256k to avoid application crashes"). I
don't know what to call these people (does "troll" apply?) but is McCarthy one of those
people?

The page William's is referring to is this one:
http://www.billmccarthy.com/Projects/Archived/PlatformVB/udts.html
If he had of bothered actually reading it, he would have seen it clearly
lists the "natural" size for a double as being 4 bytes, and this was based
on KB171583. The page of mine is archived content from 8 years ago.
Williams is just desperately trying to dig up any dirt he can as part of his
on going personal attacks. For months he was fixating over my hair, for
months and months he has had some obsession about sheep. Please just ignore
his personal attacks and rants.

Please don't feed Williams' obsessions and personal attacks. I refer you
guys to the newsgroup charter which specifically says avoid personal
attacks. Williams' obvious fixation and stalking of my posts is exactly
that.
Thanks.

.. . . do you mean like poking fun at somebody because he was once a taxi
driver?

By the way, what's the answer to my question? Have you been sacked?

Hehe, funny, reading you say 'to avoid personal attacks' :)

Nevertheless, you could just have answered the guy's question, would
have made this thread stop instantly.

You clearly don't know Mike Williams. Regardless of the answer he will
continue his personal attacks.
Your replying to him serves merely to encourage such actions.

Actually, I haven't seen any personal attacks in THIS thread. I think about
the closest he's come to that is to say that he hopes that Bill has been
sacked. While that may not be a nice thing to say, at least in my mind it's
not a personal attack, just an "I seriously don't like this guy and wish
someone would teach him a lesson."

That said, I do find it interesting that Bill didn't say one way or the
other if he's lost his MVP status, either by revocation or expiration.

So the point of this off-topic thread is what?

I'm sure that Bill is rather amused by the fact that he's repeatedly abused in this newsgroup but
then the abusers actually turn out to be his fanboys.

I know I got a chuckle out of it. ;-)

Good. I'm glad you think it amuses him. If he ever gets fed up of this kind
of amusement then perhaps he might consider changing his ways and stopping
his own abuse of others? By the way, do you know if McCarthy is still an MVP
or not? It would appear not judging by his recent decision to keep his nose
clean and to start answering lots of questions on the Classic VB group in an
attempt to repair the damage he has done. Keeping his nose clean is
something McCarthy is not noted for and it is very definitely against his
nature. It certainly looks as though his Micro$oft handlers have forced him
into that course of action by removing his MVP status and holding out his
potential reinstatement as a carrot to make him behave himself. I wonder how
long he can stick it out for? They tried the "carrot and stick" treatment
with me some time ago when they allowed my own MVP status to lapse for
telling the truth about them and for vehemenously and publicly complaining
in various ways about their nasty business tactics. It didn't work with me
though. I just carried on as normal despite their obvious "carrot" treatment
when they reminded me a number of times that MVP status is decided every
three months these days, implying that I might not have very long to wait.
It seems to have worked with McCarthy though, who appears to have almost
immediately buckled under his handler's applied pressure.

.. . . oops. I said, "vehemenously and publicly . . . " when I of course
meant, "vehemently and publicly . . ."

Still, McCarthy won't notice or jump on anything like that :)

McCarthy being abused? that's a new one.
