Hard Drive Space

I used system restore several times for troubleshooting a problem and it has
used up all my hard drive space. Do I have to turn off system restore and
then turn it back on, or is there a better way to get my drive space back
without loosing all my restore points?

Thanks

• When a given hard disk has less than 80 MB of remaining free disk space,
System Restore purges the data store down to 75 percent of its size, or
purges at least one restore point (this is the case if the data store is
already below 75 percent). System Restore does not stop restore point
creation. It continues to create idle time check points as time demands, and
keeps purging on a first in, first out (FIFO) basis, as space demands.

• When a disk has less than 50 MB of remaining free disk space, System
Restore purges the data store completely and suspends System Restore on all
drives (consistent freeze) until the minimum disk space (200 MB) is created
again. Then, System Restore restarts monitoring.

NOTE: 200 MB is required on the system drive only.

Now you can reset the amount of space used by System restore or Change the
location of the file. Go to System Properties, Click on the SYtem Restore
Tab.

Reduce the file size or location and older files will be deleted.

Obviously if you are running low on disk space the system will start to
perform very poorly: disk defrag won't work, your swap file will generate
more fragmentation, system restore may get suspended and you go down a death
spiral.

Get another hard drive and move data acroos to it [move the My Documents
folder].
Perform a Disk Cleanup and then defrag the C Drive.
