My hard drive crashes when I go onto the internet. What could
possibly be the problem?

please help

hard drive crashes....!

sounds pretty serious, but
unlikely. however, you know
best.
So it could be your mft is bloated,
maybe your internet temp folder is set
larger than recommended, or
your modem is going bad or
you have a lot of automatic
updates or tasks or spywares that all are
patiently awaiting for you to
connect.....

lots of causes but you can run a chkdsk
on the harddrive to correct the file
tables that occur due to harddisk crashes.

G'Day Paul,

MY first problem is that I have NO IDEA what YOU mean!!!!!
My hard drive crashes when I go onto the internet.
A hard drive crash originally referred to the literal and destructive physical
crashing of the read/write heads onto the disk surface.

It has since come to mean the permanent failure of the HDD (including
controller) to perform its function.

If you had a HDD crash, your system would no longer operate!

Now, tell us, in words of one syllable - what exactly happens.....???

The computer has not been used regularly. Started up the computer and
everything was fine. I went online then the screen went blank. It would not
reboot.
After a while, it did reboot, I went online again then right before the
screen went blank I saw a blue screen maybe for a second, I was not able to
read the information on the blue screen before it went blank. Now the
computer will not blink. I tried the windows xp boot disks (6 of them) and
the floppy drive does not light up. The cd lights flicker, the power light
is on, the hard drive light stays on for about 30 seconds then goes out. The
fan over the cpu is spinning extra fast, the computer also has a second fan
that is running normally. I checked all the connections, they are all
secure. I don't think I missed anything.

thank you,
