I bought an IBM NetVista PC with Windows XP pre-installed.
Bad Choice! It came with no CDs. I was told that the
recovery Cd was burned into the hard drive. So far so
good, but after a year the hard drive crashed! Remember, I
have no CDs. I call up IBM and they tell me I cannot
request a CD because the machine is out of warantee! Well
Excuss me for not crashing my hard drive sooner!!

I cannot restore off a bad hard drive. It was my fault for
not calling in and requesting the CD that they did not
send me with my PC within 30 days of buying the PC! Learn
from my suffering. If no Windows CD comes with your PC
call up your manufacturer and request the CDs as soon as
you get it or suffer my fate.

Sounds like I lost my license to XP. I cannot find
anywhere to ask Microsoft about restoring a lost copy of
XP, and it doesn't sound like they would care anyway.

You should have created a back-up of xp.Thats a bold statement to make abou
microsoft, its not true, and had you lost or ruined one of the oem copys of x
they'd gladly replace it for you..Next time think before you buy..

MS would not replace an OEM, they'll tell him get in touch with the manufacturer or maker of the company

Keep bugging IBM. Hopefully, you will find someone who will help. If any company should know about premature HD crashes it's them
