Hanging processes

Hello. I have Windows 2000 Professional, which I am using as a server
(as well as my regular usage PC) which means I restart as seldom as
possible.

I have a program on it that has hung. This is not the first time I have
encountered it, but it is the first in quite some time that no task
manager can terminate. I have tried to terminate it with Codestuff
Starter, Windows Task Manager, and have installed the Windows 2000
Support Tools from the 2000 Pro CD to try Process Viewer which also
could not terminate it. The process is taking up all the processor
usage it can (I managed to get it to idle status, somehow the
previously NORMAL priority program was causing the HIGH priority
Windows Task Manager to not be able to get any processor time..),
Windows Task Manager says it has 1 thread while Process Viewer says it
has 0 threads.

How can I terminate this program? It is not a unique problem, it
happens with lots of programs (usually on other computers), the
computer usually has to be reset (crashing on shut down requiring
holding in the power button for an unsafe shutdown, sometimes it's bad
enough that not even that works and I need to *shudder* turn off the
power bar), so I don't really feel I need to share what the program is.

Thanks for the reply. Have just given that a try, here's the sad
result:

C:\Program Files\Support Tools>kill wcmd
process wcmd.exe (2344) - '' could not be killed
