Hello,
I'm working for a school, we are trying to deploy windows xp sp2 to 70 new
Dell GX280 workstations. We installed a working Windows XP sp2 to one
workstation.
We use Symantec Ghost enterprise edition to deploy an image to the other
workstations. The problem we have is the following, when i take an image from
the template pc and put this image to another dell pc and run Ghost walker to
generate a new SID and boot the machine, we can only logon locally (not to
the domain) whenever we want to login to the domain the computer just hangs
at applying personal settings. The mouse is moving so the machine doesn't
hang but the os is i think.
Ghost does the following:
- Puts the image to the computer ( a image which is not a member of the
domain)
- Runs ghostwalker for a new sid
- Starts the OS
- Puts the machine in the domain
- Reboots the os
- Finished deploying the machine
I'm busy with the problem 3 days now and i can't figure out why this happens.
When i deploy the image back to the same machine where i took it from i'm
able to log on and the machine runs without problems.
We don't have this issue with Windows 2000 Professional clients
I've created a new install, only Windows XP and the device drivers, no other
software on it, and i get the same result.
The image was made when the workstation was removed from the domain, i
also tried to remove the machines name from the active directory
We use Windows Server 2003 for our servers
Whenever we try to log on and it failes we reboot and log on locally we see
that windows created a new profile directory for the user.
Like: Administrator.Educatief.001 and 002 and 003 and so on each time we try
to
log on.
Removing all the profile folders doesn't work out.
We disabled all group policies that would applied to the computer.
From another pc we start a ping to the according workstation, we receive
replies
but when we start to log on after a while it stops responding, this is a
while after the systems tells me he's applying personal settings.
I thought this had to something with the firewall so i disabled that but no
result.
We have tried another PCI NIC with the same result.
I've setup userenv logging, the log:

------------------------------------------------
I can't find any information about the error's displayed in the log.
I've read something about stopping the WMI service, remove all contents from
the WBEM\Repository folder and reboot, but this didn't work out.
Another strange thing is, sometimes after 2 or 3 times ghosting the same
images and procedure the machine is able to log in, when we ghost again it's
impossible to log on, we have tried other dell machines, all with the same
result.
We have blocked ghost to move the machine into the domain and generated a
script to use NETDOM but with the same result.
I think we tried almost everything and that's why i'm posting a topic here.
Is someone able to help me finding the problem?
Thank you in advance,
Robert Nouwens
