Guidence needed on reinstalling

P

Peggy

Hello,

I don't know anything about Outlook. I use Windows Mail in Vista but my
husband has Outlook 2007 on XP Pro.
He is having numerous problems with it and we want to try reinstalling the
program to see if that fixes things.
1. Can I just start reinstalling and will it give me an option to repair?
2. Will it delete all he has in there now or just install over top?
3. How do I back up all his emails and settings in case of a problem?

Thank you very much for those that reply.

1. Use Office Diagnostics under the help menu
2. 2
3. http://www.howto-outlook.com/howto/backupandrestore.htm

Now, rather than ask about a reinstall, why not describe the problems he is having so someone can help before the tedious repairing begins?

Thank you very much for your response Milly.
On #1, I will try that once I get on his computer.
On #3 Thank you for that link. Looks like everything I need there.
On #2 I don't quite follow your response.

The problem he is having is hard to figure out.
He keeps getting an error message that Outlook has stopped responding.
The program just freezes up.
We have to force it closed and then we can't reopen the program without a
reboot. I can only assume a corrupt file of sorts which I thought maybe
reinstalling would fix.

You gave two choices in your question. Milly said the second choice
applies.

It is not likely that a reinstall will fix that. A new mail profile may,
however.
