Groups disappeared?

XP networking & XP Moviemaker seem to have just disappeared from
msnews.microsoft.com!
Is this MS phasing out NG's?

Yep. You may find those groups are still being hosted by other news servers.

Switch to another free NNTP server, like Albasani or Eternal-September,
or find a really cheap one, like individual.net ($16USD/yr). Microsoft
is dropping their microsoft.public.* newsgroups, and eventually they'll
kill off their NNTP server, too.
