Giving access to a program

I installed a program in XP under my name. I am the
administrator. My daughter cannot use the program when
she logs in. It is just not there to use. I have
installed other programs and all of the users I have
(children) are able to use them including my tax software
which I do not want them to use. So my question is how
do I set the access for the program so my daughter can
use the ones I want her to and no access others.
Thanks,

dan

Some programs that were written before XP was released and even some after
it was released are not XP "aware". They do not know about multiple user
profiles and will only work with the profile they were installed with.

You have a couple of options. You can either give your Daughters profile
Administrator rights, temporarily and reinstall the program using her
profile to the same folder or you can log in with her profile and use the
Run As option for the exe file of the program. Find the programs executable
file and right click it. Select the Run As menu item and select your
Administrator account and enter your password.

I have myself and my son listed as Administrators.........when I download and install anything, under my profile, it also shows up on his desktop and in his properties. How can I keep somethings separate for me, and he keep some things separate for him?

Hi Ronnie,

I'm interested in this too. I tried to use Run As after logging in on my
daughters account (no admin priveledge). However, right clicking the .exe
file did not offer a Run As option. Also, in my own admin account, where I
do have the Run As option on the pop up menu, I can only run as myself.
Other useres are not visible from there. Also, any changes made to the Run
As dialong box settings are not permanent, as far as I can see (aside from
the fact that there does not appear to be any meaningful changes to make!).
The program I'm trying to allow my daughter to use in Paint Shop Pro 7,
which claims to be XP compatible but is really not.

Thanks
Jack

Unfortunately, some programs will not respond to the the Run As command. In
these cases, you must temporarily give the user admin privileges, log on to
that user and reinstall the program. Make sure that you reinstall to the
same folder where PSP now resides. After this is done, change the user
account back to it's previous status. The program should then run OK.
