ghost messages are being sent from outlook

Every time I open outlook it says it is sending message 1of 1 even though I
do not have a message in the outbox that needs to be sent. It has only
recently been doing this started about a month ago after I was prompted about
a read receipt. Does anyone have a clue how to stop this or to get support
for the problem.

Most likely the read receipt is stuck. To delete it see;
