Messages sent but staying in outbox.

My entire office uses outlook and some users are experiencing a problem with
their outbox. Messages (usually read receipts) are being sent but are still
being shown in the outbox as if they haven't been. I have tried deleting the
outbox.dbx but this hasn't helped. Can someone please offer a solution to
this frustrating problem?

Outlook doesnt use dbx files, outlook express, a completely different
program, does
