can you get to a dos prompt in windows 2000 using an F key
during the initial startup of your computerright after the
memory test

Not unless DOS was installed on the machine prior to installing
Win2K. In that case you could just choose your OS from the
menu.

Booting off a DOS floppy is always an option.
