I installed Win Xp Pro to replace Win XP Home after doing
a complete backup. Is there a way I can recover my IE
Favorites from the backup or am I SOL because I didn't
export them before I did the backup?

You can still copy the contents of the backed up Favorites folder into
the new Favorites folder.

Thanks for the help, I think I see what's going on now. I
thought that by restoring my Documents and Settings that I
would get my Favorites back as well, and I did, up to a
point. My old Favorites are in the Favorites folder under
the folder with the name of the user id I'm logged on
under, but Windows is using the Documents and Settings,
including the Favorites folder, from a user folder with
the name <my userid>.OFFICE.001.

I copied the favorites from the old favorites folder into
the new Favorites folder, so that's solved the short-term
problem. Any ideas how I can get Windows to use the old
<my userid> folder under Documents and Settings instead of
the new one? I have a feeling that doing that will solve
some of the problems I've been experiencing, but will
probably create new ones, like showing programs in the
Start Menu and on the Desktop that I haven't reinstalled
yet.

Anyway, thanks again.

You can change the value of Favorites in the Registry in these
two keys:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell
Folders

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User
Shell Folders

I don't see the connection with your other problem and can only
suggest you post to a newsgroup for your operating system as this may
not be an IE6 problem.
