just purchased a new laptop and would like to migrate my outlook contact
list to microsoft mail in this new computer, via a thumb drive, but i'm
clueless as to how to go about it.
going forward i would also like to use microsoft mail exclusively, via msn
or whatever the corresponding network would be. I started to explore and
ramn in to lingo that lost me ie pop, etc.

Unless outlook is installed and configured with your old data file on the
Vista PC you would need to export your contacts to a format that Mail can
import.
Or on the old PS export your contacts to Outlook Express address book (Wab)
then copy that to Vista PC and import

Check to see if Outlook will let you export contacts in the
universal CSV format. If so, Windows Mail can import from a
CSV file.
