Vista Windows Mail vs. MSN vs. Outlook Express

I bought a new home computer with Vista to replace an old one running XP.
Outlook Express came with XP, while Vista has Windows Mail instead. I used
to be able to set it up to get my MSN mail from within Outlook Express, which
I have yet to figure out how to do the same with Windows Mail. I heard that
Windows mail cannot take in webmail like MSN. Is that true? Is that is
true, then two obvious questions. 1) Why would Microsoft go backward and
remove a functionality from newer mail program that comes with the operating
system? 2) Both Windows Mail and MSN are Microsoft products, so how can it
be possible that they don't connect? Can anyone enlighten me before I throw
in the tower and move back to XP?

I heard of Windows Live Mail also, but have not tried it because I also heard
that it streams ads which would be extremely annoying. Is that true?

Ahh.....That's good. One last question if I may. By downloading and
installing Windows Live Mail, I assume it will help me importing all info
from Windows Live including saved in and sent mail. Right? I think calendar
and contacts are separate from Windows Mail. Are they also separate from
Windows Live Mail or part of it and will help importing them also?

Sorry one more question regarding Windows Live Mail. I have a pop3 email
account with an ISP. Windows Live Mail can handle that, right?

For a paid account, which your MSN account is, there are no ads.
Windows Mail can't access Hotmail/MSN Mail via http.
Windows Live Mail can.

When you install Windows Live Mail, it automatically imports all
accounts, settings, rules, folder and emails from Windows Mail.
It does not always import contacts automatically, but there is an
easy manual import. You can continue to use the same Windows
Calendar. There is no integration between calendar and email
like there is with Outlook.

No, I do not have a paid account. I converted from MSN to another ISP many
years ago, and my MSN email address is just a hold over hotmail account that
I continue to use occassionally. Does that mean I will have to sign up for a
paid MSN account again or get streaming ads if I install Windows Live Mail?

I had some similar situations with my Windows Live Mail software. And to get
it to do what Outlook does for me as a professor getting emails into
different folders for different classes, I would have to pay twenty bucks per
year to get Hotmail Plus so all those functions like creating rules for
messages to work. LOL. I don't mind though. I spend twenty bucks on coffee
each month easily, and this is more important (I think) than the coffee
issue. lol.

So, it really depends on your needs whether to try to get Live Mail to
replace Outlook which is a very fine software. I would add that all the
Windows Live stuff coming out are really only in themselves small parts of a
rather large whole that can offer a dept of service and function that I can
use to shape the depth of my college level courses the way they need to be
for students who use the internet in their learning process. It has
certainly helped me to become paperless. Ugh.
