Gateway anf win xp

I'm trying to install windows xp on my gateway computer
and it will not letting me. I have windows me on it now
that came from the factory. I would like to have xp but it
shut down the computer when it trys to install xp. I
called gateway and sence I did not buy xp from them they
will not help me even if I still have a warrenty
left.Could any tell me what is going on ?
 
What kind of installation of XP are you trying to do? Upgrade install over
ME, or clean install? What are the error messages you get, and at what point
do they appear?
 
Run setup with the /checkupgradeonly parameter and see what the upgrade.txt
is telling you needs to be updated or disabled on the machine.
