XP computer transfer?

I have a retail licensnes of Win XP I purchased to put on a system I bought
without software. It was installed on a machine I have sence replaced (with a
new machine that came with vista home and I upgraded to Vista Ultimate
installed). I was saving that copy of XP as I also have it on my laptop
(preinstalled from Gateway) and thought I may need to go back to it on my
desktop, but I don't, Vista is not as scary as led to believe. So here is the
issue:
My son (#1) has a machine he got from his brother my other son (#2), that is
better than my replaced machine. It seems to have Win XP validation issues,
he (#2)had the machine built and never had problems with it in the past, but
now son (#1) that received it is having validation issues. Can I put my copy
of Win XP on this computer, which I assme I can as I no longer us in on my
old machine, and how does the transfer proceed?

Thanks for help.

Yes as long as it was a retail license and you no longer have it on another computer.

Assuming that you are correct when you said above that it's a retail
version, yes, you can. But if it's an OEM version that you mistakenly bought
thinking it was retail, no.

and how does the transfer proceed?

Simply take it off the old computer and put it on the new one.
