Hi there,

I have a Gateway M465-E laptop and XP SP3 Pro Op System crashed there by necessitating a re-install.

There's a recovery option F11 on the bootup but it will wipe out all installed programs and do a "fresh" install.

I have an XP OEM CD Pro SP3 so can I use that? Will the serial number work from the laptop with that OEM CD?

Or is Gateway's laptop proprietary....

Thanks,

Gordon

Your XP Pro SP3 OEM will work as long as it's a generic OEM; i.e., not
branded (example: a Dell install disk won't work on your Gateway). But a
clean install with it will also wipe out all installed programs. If you are
thinking about doing a Repair Install, certainly you can give it a try. Be
smart and back up all your data first because it's common for Repair
Installs to not work. It all depends on what happened.

After the Repair Install you may need to reinstall the Gateway drivers,
which you can get from Gateway's website.
