Games Won't Start

I hope someone can help me. I have a Dell Dimension 4500, 1gb ram, 320 g
HDD, 2.4ghz, NVidia GeForce 7300 GT. I recently had a trusted local computer
shop reformat from XP Pro to Home. After a while, I tried to install Doom 3,
Quake 4, My Tribe, Sim City 4, Diablo 2, and numerous other games, and I get
the same problem with all of them. The games install no problem, but when I
double click the shortcut, nothing happens. I tried autorunning it off the
CD, nothing. I've uninstalled and reinstalled hundreds of times, I've updated
my Nvidia drivers, Direct X, Motherboard drivers, everything. The only
exception is My Tribe. If I restart my comp, and double click the shortcut
before anything loads, it will run. Then if I quit to the desktop, and try
to run in again, nothing happens. I want to play my games and am getting
frustrated. The computer shop says they can't find anything wrong. Help!!

My first thought would be - are you trying to run/play as a user that has
full administrative rights?

.
Yes. I have two accounts on my computer and they're both admin accounts. I have the same problem with both of the accounts.
