Problem running games...Tribes 2 and Doom 3

My PC is a Pentium 4 with HT,it has an onboard video card. I have loaded the
following games:
Doom 3
Battlefield Vietnam
Tribes 2
Tribes Vengeance

Tribes 2 worked fine however the other three games were sloppy and slow to
play..I was told I needed more RAM (only had 256 meg) and a better video card.
OK,arranged with local people to install another 512 of RAM and a Radeon
Asus A9250 video card.
After the installation, Battlefield Vietnam and Tribes Vengeance played
perfectly.
Tribes 2 would not launch giving an error message Unhandled Exception
c0000005 at address 0000000.
Doom 3 would not play giving a really massive list of details headed Error
during initialization and later in the message...the current video
card/driver combination does not support the necessary features (lots of
"couldn't find" and "couldn't open" details etc).

My problem is basically that while I like to play Tribes Vengeance and
Battlefield Vietnam, the grandchildren love the other two games we now can't
play !!

Can anyone assist me please to fix or point me in the right direction ?

Hi again Bill, don't know if you can still follow this thread or
kind regards..

Hi aka Flipper
That was a newsgroup I pointed you to not a website and it's not down.
Open your Newsreader and search for microsoft.public.windowsxp.games.
"Subscribe" and then post your query there.
Jimmy S is sure to be able to help.

No problem.
I have been following that newsgroup also.
Depending on the make of your PC you may find that an instruction is
available online.
Try using Google and see what comes up.
Removing RAM sticks is a simple procedure. Just a lever at each end which
click into place.
My machine is an HP Pavilion and here is a link to the service manual. Most
of it is common to all PC's.

Hello Bill and thanks for taking an interest in this problem,
I have removed the old RAM stick and the result is the same,no go.
I have replied to Jimmy S. and advised him accordingly...also asked if the
new RAM stick should be relocated in the box and made some comment on the
disabling of drivers prior to installation of the new video card.
Thanks for the information on the HP technical website...clicked the url and
got a message saying "windows had encountered a problem and needed to
close'....tried again today and the same message. Seems to be quite a few
problems with my PC at the moment ! The PC incidentally is one built for me
by the local shop and has performed pretty well I think ..it's aPentium 4
with hyper threading a Gigabyte motherboard and a 40GB seagate
harddrive..there's a lot of other technical detail which I guess doesn't have
much bearing on the problem.
Not too happy with the local shop actually,I did tell them about the
problems with the games the next day and they were supposed to make enquiries
and ring me back...tried a follow up with them and still no call...live and
learn I suppose.
What is that saying....."that which does not kill me makes me stronger" ??

Kind regrads
Shine on you crazy diamond.
