game problems

i have xp home software, can not get rainbow six rouge
spear to load because it says for this game oprating
system windows 95 or 98 , and direct x wontload off game
disk either it says does not support this version of
windows.
can any one help it would be appreciated.

Hi Chazman!

You don't need the version of DirectX that's on the CD
since Windows XP ships with the more recent Direct X 8.1
already installed. You just need to install the 2.05 patch from:
http://www.redstorm.com/games/rogue_spear/downloads.html
that patch added Windows 2000 functionality, which should
help you install the game on Windows XP as well, otherwise
use Compatibility Mode to install the game. Here's how...

To install a program using Windows XP's Compatibility Mode, hold
down SHIFT as you insert the game CD, use My Computer to browse
to the setup program, and then skip down to step 1 in the list below:

To run an installed program using Windows XP's Compatibility Mode,
first right click the program and "Send To..." / Desktop (create shortcut).

1.. Right click on the shortcut to the program.
2.. Click on Properties.
3.. Click on the Compatibility tab.
4.. Click on Run this program in compatibility mode and select one of these:
a.. Windows 95
b.. Windows 98
c.. Windows NT 4
d.. Windows 2000
5.. Under Display settings, check mark the mode that you think that is best:
a.. Run in 256 colors.
b.. Run in 640 X 480 screen resolution.
c.. Disable visual themes.

Click on Apply.Click on Ok.Double click on the program.

If you right click your shortcut( assuming you can
install it), and under the compatibility tab, click the
"Run this program in..." box and select Windows 98 or 95,
whichever works for you. Hopefully this works for you.
