sp2 wont let me apply a patch to a game, please help

ok i have this game called rouge spear and it has always worked fine, but now
that i have sp2, when i go to install the patch, which runs in a dos window,
the patch aborts b4 it can install, but b4 i had sp2 it never did this, the
patch would install, so im wondering is there a way i can apply this patch to
my game? im pretty sure that sp2 is causing this problem, but then again i
cant be 100% sure its just its always worked until i installed sp2.
 
Are you getting an error message, or is it just quitting to the desktop?
