Successfully installed Win 95 game, Green Eggs and Ham by Dr. Seuss, on two
PCs, each on which the same version of XP Pro is installed. When started,
this game runs without incident on one PC, but fails to start, looping
indefinitely displaying a black screen on the other PC. On failed PC, ran
with all options of Compatibility Mode, with same failure. Several other Win
95 games install and run successfully on both these PCs. Any help will be
much appreciated, especially by my grandchildren using the second PC.

helpful information would include... from the "broken" machine
1. press windows key and 'r'
2. type dxdiag
3. click save all Information
4. post that file to a pastebin or include it in your post

relative information to this issue would be things such as video card
xp home or pro? sound card information?
resolution or DPI.

as well I might suggest checking the game manufacturers website for any
suggestions.

video card: Radeon 8500/8500LE, by ATI Technologies
system: XP Pro 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Build 2600
sound card: Creative SB Audigy, by Creative Technology, Ltd.

The current game manufacturer, Broderbund, no longer answers questions about
this product, and the tech. notes provided on their website do not appear to
cover this condition.

The output of dxdiag, too large to be pasted, is located at

Further investigation uncovered that the product CD contains both a 32-bit
version and a 16-bit version of the program. The 32-bit version, which loads
by default, fails as described. The 16-bit version, if selected instead,
displays a statement that 256 colors must be used and then successfully
executes! All appears normal, except that the size of the displays are
smaller than when the 32-bit version executes.
