Fresh install WinXPSP2

I recently deleted WinXPSP2 due to some type of virus or spyware. When to
reinstall a fresh copy it works fine until it starts installing the
networking components. My computer halts about halfway through installing
network components and will not continue. I don't get any error message, it
just won't continue installing. Could this be a Ethernet problem? I'm not
sure if it is installed on the motherboard. If so, how do I check it before
starting the installation and if it is bad, can and how do I disable the one
on the motherboard if needed in order to install a new ethernet card? I have
another card that I can use if this one no longer works. Any help?

When installing xp one certainly doesnt want the pc connected to the internet.
Unplug all such items before you start, then try installing xp cd,boot to cd,
select,install xp,new copy,delete the partition,create one,then xp formats
and
installs auto.If you ever wanted to add a card,power-off computer, install
card,
then on starting enter the BIOS,disable on-board,enable new.
