FP and Sharepoint

Suddenly, FP will not open my disk based website, giving me an error message
that it is not contained within a Sharepoint Services site. I've edited this
site a million times, and have never seen this before. How do I get around it
to open this site? I don't want to work on it live, ever.

Tell us exactly the steps and path you are taking to open it.

The site is on an external hard drive, along with numerous other sites that I
maintain. I have no problem opening any of them, just this one.

In FP, I click file>open and navigate to the file, which is J:My Web
Sites/church0609

It won't open the site, but comes up with an error message stating that it
is not contained within a Sharepoint Services Site.

These are the same steps I've taken to open this file for the last 5 years -
I've never seen this message before. I FTP my uploads and do not use FP
Extensions.

When happens when you use File | Open Site?

A grey box pops up in the middle of the page saying that this site is not
contained within a sharepoint services site.

The site folder will not open. It does not give me any other choices.

Download, install, and run FrontPage Cleaner and see what happens.

Helpful person

Have you checked the integrity of your external hard disk?

As a last resort you could revert to a backup copy of the site. I
assume you have been regularly backing up your work.

Thanks for all your help. The external hard drive is fine. I don't know if FP
Cleaner would have helped or not, but I didn't run it.

I did discover, while checking properties for the folder, that "read-only"
was checked under Attributes - no clue how that happened, I sure didn't do
it, and the folder hasn't been moved or anything. Anyway, once the read only
box was unchecked, the file opened fine.

Thanks again for all your helpful suggestions.
