Sharepoint Service Site Default.aspx Web Part error

I have been using FP2003 to inhance a Sharepoint Services WorkSpace. I have
no problems with modifiying Topic Pages or WebPart Pages and saving them back
to Sharepoint Services. But I have lost hours of work if I just open and
save the Default or Home page of the site. Sharepoint throws a WebPart error
page when I try to open the site and I can not recover the site even if I use
the WebPart maintance page to delete all the WebParts.

I have tried this several times with the same results. Any work done on the
doc libs list libs and topic pages are lost via Sharepoint Services because
the Home page can not be opened. I can still open and view the pages in FP
but can not fix any Sharepoint problems.

This problem only happens on the site's Home page no other pages.

Is there any reason I should not be able to open and work on a sites Home
page via FP? Has anyone else seen this problem?
