FORGOTTEN PASSWORD

MY SISTER GOT THIS LAPTOP. SHE THEN WENT TO INDIA WITHOUT IT. WHEN SHE CAME
BACK, SHE HAD FORGOTTEN HER PASSWORD. SHE LEFT NO HINT AND ONLY HER NAME
APPEARS ON THE STARTUP SCREEN. SHE SAYS SHE IS COMPLETELY BLANK. SO NOW SHE
IS DOWN MY THROAT ASKING ME TO HELP HER HOW TO GET IT BACK OR HOW CAN SHE
SIGN ON ANOTHER WAY TO RECOVER IT OR SOMETHING. KNOWING HER EXPERIENCE WITH
COMPUTERS, I WOULDN'T SUGEST HER TO REINSTALL XP. SO NOW I DONT KNOW WHAT TO
DO SINCE I DONT HAVE A PASSWORD (I DONT KNOW WHY SOMEONE WOULD NEED A
PASSWORD ON A COMPUTER THAT IS ALWAYS HOME) I DONT KNOW HOW TO HELP HER. HOPE
YOU COULD HELP ME HELP HER. TAKE IT EASY ON THIS ONE. I WANT HER TO REALISE
THAT NOTHING IS TOO PETIT TO FORGET.

Hi,

You should try it without the capslock key, it is hard to read and its use
in newsgroups is considered to be rude.

If she has forgotten her password, she should be able to logon to the
default administrator account and reset it (provided she did not password
this and forget it as well). To access the default administrator account:

In WinXP Pro, hit ctrl+alt+delete twice at the logon screen and type it in.

In WinXP Home, you must restart and enter Safe mode by hitting F8 at
startup. The administrator logon will be one of the options.

Once in, she can reset it from the Users applet in the Control Panel. If she
cannot get in any other way, read about halfway down the page here:

Turn off Caps Lock. It mafes the message very hard to read.

There is a good chance she never had a password. Have her leave the field
blank and press the Enter key,
