hi im on a home network with serveral clients and a router. i wana share a
folder on my w2k client that can only be accessed by a fellow win xp client
in the same network. any thoughts?

That is determined by what you set in Sharing, Security after
right-clicking onthe folder. Please note that it is USERs not PC's that
determine what they can use.

thats what i was thinking too, since i keep seeing the other client logging
on as guest on my computer to leech. if i create an extra account just for
someone how can i have him log on with that user name? windows doesnt ask
for a name when u go into the network neighborhood.

It will if you disable "Guest" account.(which is recommended for
security anyway) You may want to review the information in Windows 2000
Help relating to Peer to Peer Networking and the permissions to use
resources.
