Flash and DVD Player

I have an HP CD/DVD combo drive on my PC - OS XP, Pentium IV & Intel
motherboard. For some unknown reason, neither Windows Explorer nor the
Cyberlink DVD player would recognize the insertion of DVDs in the
drive for playing, asking me to insert a CD/DVD in the drive. The DVDs
which worked fine on other PCs would not play on my computer. When the
drive was installed on another computer, it played DVDs.
Ultimately, a support engineer removed the Micromedia Flash
applicatrion from the StartUp group of my PC and the DVDs were
immediately recognized by the computer.
Could anyone well-versed with the Flash application throw light on
what Flash has to do with disabling DVD Players?

Need to add a correction.
The Support Engineer removed the entire Quicktime application (not
just the Flash)
from the StatUp Group. And that has done the job. Does it mean that
Quicktime
will be always in conflict with the DVD player? Does it mean that for
connecting
the i-Pod to the computer, one must get Quicktime in the StartUp group
and for
playing DVDs, one must remove it from there?
