DVD player gets "confused" when thumb drive is plugged in

I use VLC to play DVDs.

For some reason, if a Cruzer thumb drive is plugged in, the player
picks the drive letter for the thumb drive instead of the drive that
the DVD is on.

This particular thumb drive creates 2 drives when it is plugged in.
I think that is because it has some non-eraseable software on the
thumb drive.

I don't have that problem if a Data Traveler thumb drive is plugged
in.

Is there a way to fix it?

Thanks,
Andy

Plug in the thumb drive, then click Start/Run, type diskmgmt.msc and click
OK. Now change the drive letters of your thumb drive to something that
steers well clear of your DVD player's drive letter.

Is it by chance a Sandisk or other that has U3 software on it?

Andy,

Re: "Yes it does have the U3 software on it. I wish I could delete it.
:)

You can easily delete the U3. You can delete it using the U3 utility in
the program or you can delete it using a utility from Sandisk's web site. You
can also reinstall it. All the information is on Sandisk's web site.

Yes it does have the U3 software on it.
I wish I could delete it. :)

Move all your data off the USB drive, find the U3 Uninstaller, plug
the USB drive back in and run the uninstaller. U3 creates a pseudo CD
drive that bumps the real CD drive and causes no end of problems. Let
me know how it goes.

Another fix is to perminately assign a drive letter to the internal
drives in greater than G:.

I uninstalled U3 and for some reason TrueCrypt no longer "sees" any of
2 different drives thumbdrives that I plug in.
(When I am using it to mount a volume.)

Before I give ERUNT a test drive, I will see if there is some fix.

U3 Uninstaller removed the U3 partition and related junk so it's
*possible* TrueCrypt put some kind of file or a few bytes in the 1st
partition that used to be occupied by U3 and now that's missing it's
acting up. Did you already re-format the drives after you ran U3
Uninstaller? You'll need to do that for sure.

I got the problem solved.
I made a new encrypted partition.

I occasionally do work on a Win Me computer and am looking for a
program that will function similar to TrueCrypt.
