Ah, the joys of hidden restore partitions on (Compaq / Insert-manfacturer-here)
PC's. These are usually created to avoid supplying copies of Windows + other
software on CD. Probably saves them atleast £1.50. False economy alert!
Unfortunately, it does look very much like your folder is gone. The 'factory
restore' option effectively wipes the system partition and replaces it with a
copy of the system 'as shipped' (i.e. without your data)
It will also have lost all of the updates you may have applied, so visit
Microsoft Windows Update and Microsoft Office Update as soon as practical lest
you bit hit with the virus-du-jour.
I saw a Lenovo advert today which claims 'one-key disaster recovery'. What they
do not mention is that it can be "one-key disaster".
Tips to avoid future occurences:
1) Do not put your own files on the same disk as your system (this is extremely
hard in most cases)
2) Have a full backup of your system, including all the install media (You can
re-load your system at the moment via the F-10 key, which implies that your
installation kit is on the hard disk. If the hard disk breaks, you have no
install media. Hard disks DO break.
3) Get yourself a USB pen drive or similar to keep copies of your important
stuff on.
4) Don't press F10
