"Find a contact" does not work when contact does not have an email address

My problem is that when using "Find a contact" I cannot find a contact
that does not have an email address.

The contact is in the searchable contact folder and when I type in part
of the name or full name in "find a contact" box I cannot find it. When
I edit the contact and type in any email address into it "Find a
contact" is able to find it.

Any ideas how to deal with it?

We would need at least some information. State your Outlook version,
information store, how you created your Contacts for this profile and how
you configured your Outlook Address Book.

I love the find a Contact window but it dislikes people without email
addresses. Strange but true.

It's always been like that - just make up an email account for them.

BTW - don't rely on it to look up by company name - not at all reliable.
First and Last name and combinations work well.

Not here. I've never had the "Find a Contact" dialog fail to find a Contact,
even those without an email address.

Russ I have seen it happen on many clients' sites. It just doesn't seem to
like Contacts without email addresses. Maybe it's only on older versions -
I haven't kept track of exact details. I'll test it on 2003 in my training
room tomorrow and see what happens.

I don't doubt it. I'd just be interested in the steps to repro. I've never
had it happen.

Russ,

it was working for some time and than it stopped, hard to say why but
the fact is that when there is no email address in the contact "Find a
contact" cannot find it, when I add it it can find it easly. I do not
want to make up an email for 100s contact that do not have it

Outlook 2003 11.6568.6568, SP2, it works on MS exchange server

Try removing the Outlook Address Book Service from your profile.
Restart Outlook. Add it back and make sure your Contacts Folder is enabled
as an email address book.
