files opening in browser instead of prompt

running XP home with SP2 all patched and IE6
on a commercial banking site that is used regularly
the option is given to download a .csv file, instead of prompting me to open
or save the file it is instead opening in the browser (in a new window, and
does not display properly, however if I do this same thing on a win 2K
machine it does prompt, I went in to the security settings and made sure
enable was checked on the prompt for download, I should note to even get to
this point I had to disable pop up blocking,
any ideas where to go from here?

Hi,
You may have to resort to right-clicking that CSV file and choosing "Save
target as"

But check these settings first...
From Control Panel> Folder options> File types:
File type CSV> Advanced> check "Confirm open after download."
File type XLS> Advanced> check "Confirm open after download" and uncheck
"Browse in same window."

Hope this helps,

Hi
thank you for the reply, I was away for a few days and just saw it now,
actually the software that the banking site uses does not show a link per
se, it is a radio button that you check which report to download then you
have to click on a button "receive now" , I will double check the settings
you suggested, funny that this does not happen on a win 2k machine
