File Folder Options Problem

S

Steve C

I have a problem that I need your help on. I have the
following settings selected.

From Control Panel, choose Folder Options, select View
tab. Under advanced settings, I have selected "Remember
each folders view settings."

My problem is that it does not work. I open a folder and
the settings that I had last left it in are not
remembered. As an example, I like my folders to open to
full window view. Not to a small window. I also use long
file names, so I like the spacing of the file pane to be
large so the entire file name appears. I make the file
size pane smaller to accomplish this. This occurs in
Explorer and any file I view from Explorer. It will
remember the setting as long as I have the system up
(computer on) but the next time I boot up the settings
are not there. I never had this problem with my older
Windows 98 operating system. Is there a fix for this?
Also on Pop Up windows or Menus I drag them to be were I
want them to be displayed. When I close them and re-open
them they are never were I put them. Is there also a fix
for this?

Thank You

Hi Steve,

WindowsXP will remember the settings of up to 400 folders, after that it
starts forgetting some. See this from MVP Kelly for a way to increase this
number:

http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Line 2, increase the folder view size limit to 8000

You can also resolve this with the newest version of TweakUI. Get it here:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/pro/downloads/powertoys.asp

After installing, look under explorer/customization, increase the "folders
to remember".
