I just bought a used PC. When I attached a disk from another system to
it and rebooted, I got lots and lots of "bad links lost chain cluster
XXX corrected" messages. This has been going on for hours. The odd
thing is, the disk activity light is off! What's going on?

Did the disk activity light ever work ? It may not even be connected.
 
hmmm maybe you got one of those old bios' that doesnt automatically
translate or detect new hard drives in the system unless you go into
the bios and run the hard drive detect utility.

or maybe the system is reformating the new drive to the specs of that
old 128 mb hard drive that was in there before...
