file association problems

I am having a problem with my desktop shortcuts. Whenever
I try to open one of these shortcuts, I get this message;
"This file does not have a program associated with it fot
preforming this action." I was able to open thes files,
but now i can't, and I don't know what I did to mess
things up. Please help.
