Unable to start games

When I click on a game I get an error message saying " This file does not
have a program associated with it for preforming this action. Create an
association in the Set Associations control panel"
When I go there, it looks like they are associated.
Can anyone tell me what I need to do to use the Games after clicking start?
For now I have made shortcuts to the desktop to get to the games quickly.

Have you made any alterations in the registry, for instance removing the
arrow icons from shortcuts? I believe this is known to cause this symptom.

Have you used a utility to remove the arrow from shortcuts? This is
known to screw with the Games Explorer.

It was indeed a utility that I had installed, once I removed the part about
the arrow, all works just fine

I had the same problem myself. Glad it's all better now.

I built a new computer just for Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit. Sweet.
However, I have lost the games several times. I not only have used a system
tweaker to remove those horrid arrows, but I have also used ACE Utilities to
clean the registry. I am able to recover many but not all games by putting
the pesky arrows back. About 6 months ago, I lost the games and was able to
recover all of them and retain the tweaking. But, I forgot just what I did.
It was a usual Vista trip around the world to find something next door. I
may go back to XP Media Center.
