File and print sharing basics

Ramesh

HI

I am sorry this could be a basic question ..

Do i need to create a user for every user who i want to allow file and print
sharing on my system? I use XP professional and i have a shared printer and
folder. But users from other systems are unable to share them even though i
have full rights for Remote Desktop Users on my system.

Is this the way XP security works or am I missing something? If i do have
to create users on my system for them to share, is there a way i can stop
those usernames from appearing on my logon screen?

Thanks for any help.

"Remote Desktop Users" group is for - not surprsingly - the Remote Desktop
service (Terminal Services, Remote Desktop Client connectivity...)

If you turn on Simple File Sharing, then you only need one account, guest.
If you set a password for the guest account it will then apply to all LAN
file-accesses.

Thanks Ian. I am not sure i got it .. right now my system has 2 users. Now
i d like to allow 2 users from another system to use my printer. If i
enable user guest and Simple File sharing, will every LAN user accessing my
system have to use the same password?

Also what s the simplest to do this without enabling Simple File sharing?

Thanks
Ramesh
