faxing from XP Home Ed.

Does anyone know if XP Home comes with a fax modem
internally installed (the XP is an OEM on an EMachine)?
I went through the Fax Wizard so it would appear to, then
I read that to send a fax from a Word page, I'd need Word
2002, whereas I have Word 2000 installed.
Second question: if I CAN fax directly off my computer to
someone else, not networked, does the fax go through a
phone line still, or does it bypass the whole phone
system and go over the Internet? (What I'm asking is: if
my all-in-one HP machine has its fax function screwed up,
can I bypass it altogether by faxing direct from the
computer? Thanks for any knowledge you can give. Jerry

Windows XP is an operating system (i.e., software).
A modem is hardware.
Ask your OEM if they installed a fax modem if you can't discern it from the
documentation that came with your computer.
Faxes use phone lines, not the Internet.
