Fax service is in stoppin state

My fax service does not work, because the fax service is
in stopping state. If I remove Microsoft Fax and install
it again only 1 fax can be send, the service will be
again in stopping state. If I open the fax console, and
try to open "Configuring Fax...", after a long time-out
the following messagebox appears: "A connection to the
fax server cannot be made".
I am using Windows XP Professional.

What do you mean by stopping state. Do you see any event log entries in
event viewer (Start > Programs > Administrative tools > Event Viewer)

What do you mean by stopping state.
Computer Management > Services > Fax properties page
shows, that: "Service Status : Stopping".
The Start, Stop, Pause and Resume buttons are grayed out.
The service startup type is Automatic.
Path to executable: C:\WINDOWS\system32\fxssvc.exe
Do you see any event log entries in event viewer (Start
Programs > Administrative tools > Event Viewer)
No, there are no entries about fax.

No idea - did you reboot and try? BTW do you have any modem installed on the
machine?
