FAX Preview

I create faxes of multiple scanned documents by pasting them as separate
pages in a word processing document. I recently had to reinstall my system
and reconfigure the FAX program. I use the free one that comes with XP. I set
the default for TIF documents to the windows picture and fax viewer. When I
create a 4 page FAX the FAX preview only shows the first page. When the
document is sent it shows 4 pages sent. When I go to the FAX console and look
at the sent documents it shows 4 pages but when I click on the document it
only displays the first page. It this normal? Is there a way to see all sent
pages?

I thought I was seeing multiple pages in the past but it may have been using
a viewer from Microsoft Office that I no longer have.

The more I think about it the more I am sure that I was using Microsoft
Office's viewer in the past. Is it therefore true that the XP Picture and Fax
Viewer can only display the first page?

Windows Picture and Fax viewer works just fine. Are you clicking the arrow
button to view the subsequent pages?

This is a single document containing multiple pages. After some research I
have found that the Windows Picture and Fax Viewer will only show the first
page of a multipage TIF. I have since installed "IrfanView" and it works
great.

Your research is not correct. That perception exists simply because users do
not realize they must click on the arrow button to see other pages.
Once Office 2003 is installed, it replaces Windows Picture viewer with MODI.
Users do not get confused with MODI, because it shows a thumbnail of all
pages in the left hand pane.

Dear Russ,
Reading through this thread I can say I am having a similar issue
if not that same at Dennis. I have a 4 page .Tiff file and when I try
to open it it will only show the first page. If I change to filmstrip
view the arrow buttons you are referring to are not active to click.
I can not jump from page to page.

Hello,

I know this thread was started about 6 weeks ago, but I have a similar
issue, only I know it is not that I'm not clicking the >> arrow next in the
Windows & Fax Viewer software.

The PC runs MCE 2005 SP2. I'm having trouble with the fax console Preview
before sending the fax. After having installed my digital camera, Kodak
P712's software, the Fax coversheet only Previews in its software rather than
the Microsoft Fax & Picture Viewer.

Can someone help me reconfigure the fax to use the Windows & Fax Viewer
software so that I may view all the fax's pages?

Thanks
Diane

Thank you Russ, once you sent me to the right place I could see the TIFF were
being opened by Kodak. I changed to the Windows Viewer & it works, sort of,
but there is another problem.

Once I changed the file association, I could view the fax I sent yesterday
(coversheet & scanned doc). I then went to try to view an 11-page fax sent
about 6 months ago (to make sure what I did works OK). When trying to view
that fax I get its coversheet as the 1st page to view, but then I get the
scanned doc I faxed yesterday instead of the actual 1st page of the doc I
faxed 6 months ago. As I tried to view other sent faxes it gets stranger. I
can view the coverpage of any fax sent, but when I try to view the next page,
I get the coverpage of the last fax I tried to view (it goes on & on, the
more faxes I try to view, the more coverpages appear in the Windows Picture &
Fax Viewer. The last page to view is always the scanned image I faxed
yesterday. I can never see anything past any fax's coverpage. ALL I see are
other fax's coverpages.

Can you help me with this please? What's happening? Did I do it?

Thanks again

Hi Russ,

Boy you are fast. It's inexplicable to me also. Here are the steps I
followed.

Control Panel
Folder Options
File Types
TiFF - was set to my Kodak camera's software - click change selected Windows
Picture & Fax Viewer & enabled Always Use the Selected Program
OK
OK

Start>All programs>Accessories>Communications>Fax>Fax Console>Sent items

Yesterday's sent fax is at top of list >right click>view = its coversheet
appears in Windows Picture & Fax Viewer >next = see scanned sent doc

Navigate down to 11-page fax sent 6 months ago >right click>view = see its
coversheet >next page = then see scanned doc I faxed yesterday, not the
actual next page of the sent fax

Tried to view another sent fax >right click>view = see its coversheet >next
page = above coversheet >next page = scanned doc faxed yesterday

Tried another sent fax, following same procedure I see the particular fax's
coversheet, next page results in coversheets I viewed from above tries, &
last page is always the last page of the fax I sent yesterday

Thanks

TIFF
were
being opened by Kodak. I changed to the Windows Viewer & it works,
sort
of,
but there is another problem.

Once I changed the file association, I could view the fax I sent
yesterday
(coversheet & scanned doc). I then went to try to view an 11-page fax
sent
about 6 months ago (to make sure what I did works OK). When trying to
view
that fax I get its coversheet as the 1st page to view, but then I get
the
scanned doc I faxed yesterday instead of the actual 1st page of the doc
I
faxed 6 months ago. As I tried to view other sent faxes it gets
stranger.
I
can view the coverpage of any fax sent, but when I try to view the next
page,
I get the coverpage of the last fax I tried to view (it goes on & on,
the
more faxes I try to view, the more coverpages appear in the Windows
Picture &
Fax Viewer. The last page to view is always the scanned image I faxed
yesterday. I can never see anything past any fax's coverpage. ALL I
see
are
other fax's coverpages.

Can you help me with this please? What's happening? Did I do it?

Thanks again

Hello,

I know this thread was started about 6 weeks ago, but I have a
similar
issue, only I know it is not that I'm not clicking the >> arrow next
in
the
Windows & Fax Viewer software.

The PC runs MCE 2005 SP2. I'm having trouble with the fax console
Preview
before sending the fax. After having installed my digital camera,
Kodak
P712's software, the Fax coversheet only Previews in its software
rather
than
the Microsoft Fax & Picture Viewer.

Can someone help me reconfigure the fax to use the Windows & Fax
Viewer
software so that I may view all the fax's pages?

Thanks
Diane

Dear Russ,
Reading through this thread I can say I am having a similar
issue
if not that same at Dennis. I have a 4 page .Tiff file and when
I
try
to open it it will only show the first page. If I change to
filmstrip
view the arrow buttons you are referring to are not active to
click.
I can not jump from page to page.

I think I just figured it out & it is me : (

I was clicking > (next image) (far left on page), instead of the next page
in the middle of page. I feel so stupid. I'm used to viewing picture
files this way, & it's been some time since I tried to view sent faxes from
the console because the Kodak software had taken pver & I could not.

Thanks for trying to help. I'm sure I can't be the only one who has done
something like this.

Hi Russ,

Boy you are fast. It's inexplicable to me also. Here are the steps I
followed.

Control Panel
Folder Options
File Types
TiFF - was set to my Kodak camera's software - click change selected
Windows
Picture & Fax Viewer & enabled Always Use the Selected Program
OK
OK

Start>All programs>Accessories>Communications>Fax>Fax Console>Sent items

Yesterday's sent fax is at top of list >right click>view = its coversheet
appears in Windows Picture & Fax Viewer >next = see scanned sent doc

Navigate down to 11-page fax sent 6 months ago >right click>view = see its
coversheet >next page = then see scanned doc I faxed yesterday, not the
actual next page of the sent fax

Tried to view another sent fax >right click>view = see its coversheet
page = above coversheet >next page = scanned doc faxed yesterday

Tried another sent fax, following same procedure I see the particular
fax's
coversheet, next page results in coversheets I viewed from above tries, &
last page is always the last page of the fax I sent yesterday

Thanks
