Default Viewer For Fax Documents

Recently bought a Dell computer and the free subscription to Jasc Software
expired and I did not spend the money to renew. However, this was the
default viewer for the fax documents so now when I attempt to look at a sent
or received fax in Fax Console I get the following message: "Need a default
viewer for fax documents (.tif files)." How do I go about setting up a
different default viewer for faxes???

The standard file association for .tif (fax) files is:

"rundll32.exe <drive>:\WINDOWS\system32\shimgvw.dll,ImageView_Fullscreen %1"

Outlook/Office 2003 resets the default viewer for TIF files to MODI:

"C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\MODI\11.0\MSPVIEW.EXE" "%1"

Dear K. Christiansen,

or received fax in Fax Console I get the following message: "Need a

different default viewer for faxes???

Open "My Computer"
Click "Tools->Options"
Click "File Types"
Select the "TIF" extension
Click "Change" and select the "Image and Fax Viewer for Windows"
application.

If it's not in the list, then click "Advanced" and in the "Open" action
insert:

rundll32.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\shimgvw.dll,ImageView_Fullscreen %1

Kind regards,

Thank you so much for your easy to follow instructions which worked
perfectly. This website, Discussion Group, sure is a great place to receive
answers, especially when one is not a computer technician.

Hello,
I am having the same problem. I can't view a previously sent or received fax. The same error message comes up. "the fax document cannot be displayed because your operating system does not have a default viewer for fax documents (.tif files). I tried the steps above and when I get to tools - folder options - file types, there is no extension for tif, but I need to know what extension to click on in the "Registered File Types" box at the top before I click on Advanced at the bottom or it doesn't work???? Can you please help me? I've been struggling for a lont time with this and I can't get it to work. Thank you.
