Fax install problem

There are many posts on this subject here, but none reveal a solution to my
problem. The quote below from Hal Hostetler ends many of these posts, but
also does not solve my problem. The microsoft solution explicitly states it
is only for situations were the files exist in some form (compressed or
uncompressed) on the local system, in my case they do not exist. Install
can't find install files, etc. how can I fix this? This is a brand new
machine.

In this case, it sounds you may have security data base corruption as
documented here:

You cannot add a Windows component in Windows XP

You can either:

1. Get the hotfix mentioned in the KB article and install it. Microsoft
usually waives any charges for support calls to get supported hotfixes
listed in Knowledge Base articles.

2. Try this procedure using the Esentutl.exe utility mentioned in the KB
article to recover from security database corruption:

Note that Microsoft does NOT recommend that you use the Esentutl.exe utility
and would prefer you try the hotfix.

Well, I don't see this explicit statement; the files can exist on the local
HD as the original install source or as replacements provided by a service
pack or they can exist on a Windows XP install CD. Did you try the HP
procedure I posted?
