FAX install caused problems

Yesterday I installed the FAX services component and managed to send one FAX
message.
Since then my PC has started behaving oddly - the keyboard keeps freezing as I
type, with characters appearing slowly and then suddenly all of at once.

Keyboard TAB switching also freezes temporarily and then unlocks.

I have removed the FAX services component but the problem persists.

Any known issues?

Spec:-
WinXP SP2
Home PC
P4
1GB RAM

virus scanned and clean!
 
This is not an issue I've ever seen associated with the Fax service. In
addition to viruses, have you checked for Spy/Spam ware?

Yes, all checked and all clear.

I've uninstalled the FAX service component now but I still had to perform a
couple of system restores and a repair.
Now all seems to be back to normal (I hope).
