Favorites Icons

Peter Loring

When I add websites to my "Favorites" they normally setup
with their icon as the Logo or Trademark of the
organisation which owns the website; this makes them
easily distinguishable on the list. Yesterday, for no
apparent reason, all of those unique icons were replaced
by the M/S Internet Explorer icon!
Can anybody tell me why this should have happened and how
I can reinstall the individual icons; everything still
appears to work as it did before; it just looks different
and is yet another mystery associated with "Windows"

Thanks

The program "FavOrg" preserves the favorites icon permanently. You may download it from:

Peter,
The hands-on method:
Favicons are in the Temporary Internet Files folder. Search the TIF folder
periodically for *.ico Copy any icons you want to save to another folder.
Right-click the internet shortcut> properties> change icon. They'll be saved
then, even after newer files would have pushed them out of the TIF folder.

Favorg is good, but it's no longer free.

A google search for favorg.zip might still find an alternate download site
or two.

FavIconizer from
http://www.codeproject.com/tools/faviconizer.asp?target=favicons will save
favicons for you. It's a good program and it's free. I found registration at
http://www.codeproject.com/ to be a bit of a pain, but I've been through
worse ;-)
