PLEASE help ....... Favorites Icon ?

Hello,
I added some well-known websites to my "Favorites". For example, I
added the www.bankofamerica.com website, which will automatically put an
American Flag to icon to the left of the title WITHIN the Favorites drop down
menu. Another example, is eBay.com, which puts an eBay icon.
The odd thing is that have awhile (I don't recall if they do it
simultaneously or individually), all the icons eventually turn into an
Internet Explorer icon ("Blue" lower case "e"). Is there a specific way so
that I can keep the cool looking Icons and keep them from turning into the
boring ones.
Thank you in advance. Rochelle.

These icons are stored in your browser cache and over time are discarded. You need a program such as
FavOrg to maintain these icons.

You can get FavOrg here:

Hello Fuzzy Logic.
Thanks for the link. I have an additional question after clicking on
the link you provided and reading the reviewers opinion about the program.
In short, the reviewers writes, "Its a great freeware app...and you dont even
need to keep the software in memory. Just run it, get the icons, and close
the program...as simple as that."
My questions are: 1) "don't need to keep the sw in memory, just run it,
get the icons, and close the program", does this mean that the program starts
up automatically when I boot my pc? If it does, should I go to msconfig and
untick it so that it doesn't start up everytime and then when I NEED the
program then start it up at that time?, 2) I know the program is freeware,
but I typically read that with most freeware there is a "privacy" cost. In
otherwords, freeware is usually bundled with spyware, etc. Does this program
have any issues like this?
Thank you again. Rochelle.

This program is very simple. It doesn't install or run at startup. You run it manually and it scans your favorites
and goes to the sites and attempts to retrieve the appropriate icon. You only need to do this once and after that
you only have to run it if you add an item to your favorites. It stores the icons in the directory where you put the
program. While it's true that SOME freeware contains unwanted spyware there are numerous useful utilities
that don't. This program does not contain any spyware or anything else malicious. I use many freeware utilities
and a great resource for them is http://www.pricelessware.org/

Before installing any freeware a simple Google search for the program and the word spyware will usually tell
you wether or not it is malicious.

Those icons, called "favicons" are stored in your cache, or Temporary
Internet Files folder. When you clear that folder, or that icon gets
over-written due to age or file space requirements of the folder, the
favicon is lost. To make them permanent you'll have to find them in the TIF,
copy them to a separate folder and rename them.

The easiest way to keep your favicons permanent is to use a third-party
utility -

me. :)

Hello,

Another freeware program I would like to recommend you is my Quero Toolbar
which is an address bar-like toolbar with favicon support. When using Quero
Toolbar it automatically downloads the favicons from the sites you visit and
thereby helps to keep the favicons in your favorites menu alive.

2) I know the program is freeware,
but I typically read that with most freeware there is a "privacy" cost.

Sadly, this is true for many toolbars, for example the Google Toolbar can
easily become spyware if the user turns on some "advanced" options like
SpellCheck, PageRank, Suggest or AutoUpdate.

The Quero Toolbar on the other hand does not "phone home" and I am fully
commited to respect the privacy of my users. Besides, Quero is also a
research project and independent of any search engine vendors.
