Favorites icons are Windwos undefined (square) ones - HELP!

Note: The following issues does NOT relate to favicons but to standard blue
Explorer icons.

I have installed Windows XP followed by Service Pack 2 there are no
applications installed at this point. System board and network drivers are
installed.

My problem is that when I go to the favourite’s folder in Internet Explorer,
all my favourites are the square undefined Windows icons rather than the blue
explorer icons that I expect to find. Occasionally they return for a brief
moment and if I click on “sort by Name†the icons can very briefly be seen to
change to the explorer type then back to the undefined ones again. This only
appears to occur with Internet Explorer and favourites in other panes such as
“My Documents†work fine.

I have attempted to fix the problem with some ideas found on the web to no
avail and have even reformatted my four RAID hard drives and reinstalled
Windows XP and Service Pack 2 again! I did check the favourites in IE before
installing Service Pack 2 and the icons were fine then which may point to an
issue with Service Pack 2 but this is my second install and previous systems
with Windows XP SP2 have been fine.

Any help would be most appreciated!

Kind regards,

I am sooo sorry for having to post under Jason's post, but I too need HELP.

I can not post a new question, comment or topic, it won't allow me, all that
happens is the screen flickers. The only way for me to post is in someone's
post.

Can someone tell me why? Please? So I can make my own new topic?

I am sorry Jason,

thank you
