Subject: Favorites; filename and location IE 6.0 and IE
5.5

What is the filename containing browser Favorites
and where is it found in IE 6.0 and IE 5.5 ?

I'm migrating from a WinNT pc (IE 5.5) to XP pc (IE 6).
I would like to migrate the IE-5.5 Favorites (Bookmarks)
from the old pc to the new pc. I have not found the file
for Favorites on neither the NT box that has IE 5.5 nor
the XP box that has IE 6.

I don't know about WinNT, but for WinXP they're in C:\Documents and
Settings\<username>\Favorites

The easiest way to move them to another machine is to use IE's File | Import
and Export.

I have not found the file for Favorites on neither the NT box
that has IE 5.5 nor the XP box that has IE 6.

On either system you can find the current location
using the following sequence of keyboard commands:

Press Alt-a,CursorUp,Menu-r

(That assumes that CursorUp wraps from the top of the Favorites
menu to an entry at the bottom. It doesn't matter what entry; we are
just using it to check the Properties of an arbitrary one in order to find
its Location: on the Properties page, General tab.)

[Ctrl-Backtab to General tab if necessary],
doubleclick somewhere in Location: entry
Menu-a,Menu-c

(The last two commands put the full path to Favorites into the Clipboard.
If your keyboard does not have a Menu key use an equivalent command
such as Shift-F10 or right-click with the mouse.)
